Course Description

DTH offers a relevant and timely undergraduate degree program with a specific emphasis in Teaching Thai language. In our four-years program, teaching majors will develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of mind and behavior in the areas of teaching and education, together with professional and discipline skills. These training will prepare our students to assist in human resource development, educational testing and measurement, pastoral care, and related fields of social service. Education majors’ education experience will be further enhanced with observation, research and internships. In short, our program is designed to nurture, grow and train future educators and leaders of tomorrow.

Subject Description

ITH101 Elementary Thai I 3 (3 – 0)

Elementary Thai listening, speaking, reading and writing skills Thai for greeting, introducing oneself, seeking help, asking for personal information. Elementary Thai grammar, consonants, vowels, tone marks, syllable forming, syllables, words, checked and unchecked syllable, simple sentences and sentences for communicative purposes.

ITH102 Elementary Thai listening and speaking 3 (3 – 0)

Listening skill and pronouncing skill for understanding, ability to speak perceptively in word, sentence, or short paragraph, listening comprehension for short texts and long texts (1-3 paragraphs), speaking and writing context from comprehension, describing of you see, presenting personal opinion about a topic in a short paragraph, explaining a situation.

ITH103 Elementary Reading Thai 3 (3 – 0)

Pronouncing letters, vowels, intonation marks, words, sentences, passages, a paragraph, and paragraphs, reading comprehension for short stories, single-page texts, multi-page texts, stories about body and organ system, health and elementary heath care, clothes and personal stuffs, house and address, house component and housing tools, Thai foods and their ingredients, Thai cultures such as Songkran, Thai traditional play, candle parade, vegetables and fruits carving, and Kratong festival.

ITH104 Elementary Thai II 3 (3 – 0)

Upper elementary listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in upper elementary Thai for asking for and giving directions, buying and bargaining, making appointments, booking accommodation, making travel reservations. Elementary Thai grammar, leading consonants, paired consonants, different ways of writing the “I” sound, changeable vowels, less formable vowels, punctuation, simple sentences and compound sentences.

ITH105 Listening and speaking in daily life 3 (3 – 0)

Listening and speaking skill in daily life for communication and survival, listening and speaking words and sentences, passages and conversations responding in daily life about asking for information such as being, weather, hobbies, clothes, beddings and sleeping, foods and drinks, cooking, medicine, house, news, pets, planting, and traveling.

ITH106 Elementary Writing Thai Language 3 (3 – 0)

Writing in sentences, describing a picture by writing, writing self-introduction, writing a story or experience, writing comprehension, writing in a paragraph, and writing an essay.

ITH201 Intermediate Thai I 3 (3 – 0)

Intermediate Thai listening, speaking, reading and writing skills for travel and tourism, sports and exercise, health and healthcare, entertainment and leisure activities, occupation and career. Thai grammar, parts of speech in Thai, simple sentences and compound sentences.

ITH202 Public Speaking 3 (3 – 0)

Foundation knowledge about speaking in different situations, developing personality and nonverbal usage for public speaking, speaking preparation, script preparation, and audience analyzing, Language use notice, principles of speaking and art of speaking in different situations such as introduction speaking, conversations, congratulations, farewell, and condolences.

ITH203 Reading printed media and electronic media 3 (3 – 0)

Knowledge about printing media, type and character of the information in printing, searching and screening guideline for choosing the information from printing and electronic media, Thai language notice in printing, reading comprehension, reading analyzing, and reading evaluation for printing, information evaluation from printing media.

ITH204 Thai Grammar I 3 (3 – 0)

Orthography, parsing, and syntax in the original Thai language grammar.

ITH205 Linguistic for studying Thai language 3 (3 – 0)

Fundamental linguistic knowledge, voice and voice system of Thai language, analyzing Thai language by linguist aspect.

ITH206 Intermediate Thai II 3 (3 – 0)

Upper intermediate Thai listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through tales, stories from experiences, Thai beliefs and Thai practices, important Thai festivals, the national flag and anthem. Thai grammar, word building in Thai, compound sentences and complex sentences.

ITH207 Academic Reading 3 (3 – 0)

Knowledge about academic document, academic language characteristic, reading academic document guideline, reading goods or equipment invoice, general academic document such as passages, books, textbooks, and researches.

ITH208 Writing Thai Language for Business and Academic term 3 (3 – 0)

Writing principle of Thai language for business and academic term, writing Thai language for different types of business, writing printing form, text, announcement, advertisement, and equipment handbook, defining process of writing, project presenting, writing essay and academic essay.

ITH209 Thai grammar II 3 (3 – 0)

Syntaxes, Poetry, Royal Words and polite words, proverb, idiom and using principal sentences for communication.

ITH210 Foreign Language in Thai Language 3 (3 – 0)

General knowledge about foreign language that being used in Thai language, cause of applying foreign language in Thai language, vocabulary, idioms, voice and definition from foreign language and its source, modifying word and idioms to be suited for Thai language, notice of foreign language in Thai language.

ITH301 Advance Thai Language I 3 (3 – 0)

Advanced Thai listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in geography of Thailand, Thai society, Thai economy, Thai culture and tradition, lifestyles of the four regions in Thailand, the King and the Royal family, Thai grammar, homonyms, synonyms, levels of language, the court language.

ITH302 Academic and Formal Speaking 3 (3 – 0)

Academic and formal speaking principle, discuss, debate, interviewing and writing interview script, giving speech and writing speech script, speaking and preparing script for being a moderator, a spokesman, and a reporter, presenting a research by media speaking.

ITH303 Writing Creative Thai prose and Poetry 3 (3 – 0)

General knowledge about writing Thai prose, Thai prose principle and art of writing Thai prose, writing daily record, writing essay, writing nonfiction, composing short story. Thai poetry creative writing principles and art of Thai poetry creative writing, writing easy Thai poetry on Kavaya and Klon for transferring a sense of thought and feeling.

ITH304 Elementary Thai Literary Works 3 (3 – 0)

General knowledge about Thai literary works in various periods; Sukhotai, Ayuthaya, Thon buri, Rattanakosin, and the great Thai literatures.

ITH305 Elementary Thai language for Business 3 (3 – 0)

Speaking and writing principle for communication in business, technical term in business cycle, phoning, recording by order, explaining by words, holding meeting and writing statement, writing news report, reporting news, writing bulletin, negotiating, writing business report, and presenting by speaking with media for business communication.

ITH306 Advance Thai Language II 3 (3 – 0)

Advanced Thai listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in history of Thailand, the ways of the world, relations of Thailand and other countries. The use of Thai in explaining reasons and views, Thai grammar, elementary Thai poetry.

ITH307 Current Thai Literary Works 3 (3 – 0)

General knowledge about current Thai literary works, types of current Thai literary works, Thai literature style and content, a role of Thai literature to Thai society.

ITH308 Thai language for Industry of Tourism and Service 3 (3 – 0)

Thai language principle and art of Thai language for tourism industry, speaking and writing to persuade a consumer for choosing tourism attraction and service, speaking and writing to deliver tourist information, speaking and writing for introducing to the regulation of tourist attraction and service, and service ethics.

ITH309 Thai language for translation and interpretation 3 (3 – 0)

Document translating and interpreter translating principles from foreign language to Thai language and from Thai language to foreign language, comprehension, analyzing, and interpreting for translating and interpreter benefit, utilizing Thai language for translating document and interpreter translation, translator and interpreter ethics.

ITH310 Thai Language for Elementary Teaching 3 (3 – 0)

Utilizing Thai language for teaching, specialty of Thai language, Thai language usage for teaching situation, teaching technique to teach Thai as a foreign language, creating teaching plan, creating media for supporting teaching, evaluation.

ITH401 Translation for specific communication 3 (3 – 0)

Translation for communication principles, terminology for translating from other language to Thai language and from Thai language to other language, composing translated content, translating specific document by situation and specific need.

ITH402 Interpretation translation 3 (3 – 0)

Interpreting translation principles, Thai language terminology for interpreting translation, interpreting translation technique and interpreting outlining in a specific situation, interpreting translation in general situation, interpreting situation in international meeting or cross-language meeting, and interpreting meeting for supporting an international personnel.

ITH403 Thai language for teaching Grammar, Language Usage and Literary Works 3 (3 – 0)

Knowledge of Thai language to manage learning and teaching grammar, language usage, and literary works, to design learning and teaching process, and creating medias of learning and teaching grammar, language usage, and literary works.

ITH404 Thai language for managing Tourism and Service 3 (3 – 0)

Utilizing Thai language for managing tourism and service, processing to manage tourist planning and service, psychology principles that relates to a use of Thai language for tourist and service industry, and analyzing psychology of using Thai language for tourist and service industry.

ITH405 Thai language for Information Technology 3 (3 – 0)

Communicative on Thai language by information technology, searching and selecting, presentation.

ITH406 Research on Thai language 3 (3 – 0)

Introduction to research on Thai language, reading researches and articles on Thai language.

ITH407 Seminar on Thai Language 3 (3 – 3)

General knowledge about seminars on the use of the current Thai language, Thai language in mass media and Thai literature/ literature and articles about the seminar in Thai language and literature, and practice their skills, knowledge and comprehension in using the Thai language more accurately and efficiently by using Thai language for reasoning and expressing opinions besides having an overview of the topic of the seminar in Thai language.

ITH408 Experience career profession 3 (3 - 3)

Working in the real situation in an assigned organization, and presenting interning experience and free research for graduation.
